summer reviews

the 4400
last month, exbf and I stumbled on the series trailer for the 4400 - a sci-fi series airing on the USA network about 4400 people who reappear from the past- some with unexplained powers such as telekinetics and telepathy - and have been presumed missing or dead. there is government intervention, consistent dramatic plots, fine acting, and loads of sci-fi to back it up. little did i know that this series is already in its third season. And how lovely is it that exbf has not only purchased the first two seasons, but has a new flat panel HDTV hooked up to his Bose surround sound (as for the manly specs of this setup - i haven't got a clue). we (but mostly just HE) were glued to this show all weekend. that's the thing with series dvds...you just can't stop until you reach the end. its so evil but so satisfying for someone like me who is not all so fond of delayed gratification.

Superman
i'm such a girly girl who can care less about this surge of superhero flicks out there and yes, i dare say - even Spiderman! (but i think that's mostly because i'm not fond of Kirsten Dunst - petty (and proud of it) i know!). so here comes that man of steel and maybe its partly because he is super in all respects but this rendition of the superhero was really successful for me. first of all, i appreciate the fact that it wasn't all about the grand effects and the big stunts. the story actually has depth AND warmth: it picks up where we last see him in the big screen and he realizes that he is the last remaining from his home. he returns to earth the find motivation and purpose for his existence only to be bogged down by the apparent loss of his love, Lois Lane and the return of his power-hungry enemy, Lex Luthor. the acting is actually enough to be engaging - Kate Bosworth is out of her teeny-bopper usual; Kevin Spacey with his spellbinding, psychotic skills; and the pleasantly surprising Brandon Routh who does Christopher Reeves proud and tickles my fancy. my only (not)"complaint" is that Kumar was making me laugh with his eyes. hazel and i were waiting for him to make a dumb remark but found it even funnier that he had no lines.

Santana strikes again - Romantic
Yes this is a shoe but ain't it beautiful!? I am crossing my fingers that the online shoe store will still have this in stock when i get paid on Friday. thank God almighty, it's payday!! Back to the shoe - i admit i'm not always a fan of Santana's shoe creations but once in awhile he'll really hit me hard. it's hard to find an ivory shoe that doesn't scream wedding. this shoe can be taken out on the town with jeans or be brought to work in a suit. the peep toe, the fine detailing on the buckle, and the pattern on the fabric make it so superbly lusty yet Romantic, as it is named appropriately. lawdy lawd.
